About the Owner and Shop
It's been over two decades since Chris DiGrazia opened the "Just A Cut" Family Barber Shop on Route 28 between North Branch Village and RVCC. In that time he's seen it all -- rivers flooding, roads blocked for bridge construction, and even the return of the flat top.
All the while, he's catered to a loyal and growing band of customers who know they can walk in and get just a cut, or a new look any time they like, and at a great price. Just A Cut is a lively, friendly place. It always seems to be buzzing with a whole cross section of people -- kids, RVCC students, local professionals and old-timers.
The old-timers remeber Just A Cut's predecessor -- Nick's Barbershop. Run by Nick Sternidori, it occupied the same site for 29 years before Chris bought the business. At the time, Chris, a Middlesex native, had just returned to Central Jersey after 12 years in Los Angeles, where he learned the art of barbering.
In L.A., one of Chris's clients was actor Henry Darrow, best known for his role as Manolito Montoya on the TV series "The High Chaparal". Chris has Darrow's autographed photo on his wall at Just A Cut among many others. And though it's been years since Chris has been to L.A., Darrow's hair still looks great -- just check out henrydarrow.com!
Chris's walls are lined with pieces of his life -- an newspaper article that describes his love of motorcyles, a letter thanking him for his role in the 2001 independent film "Forsaken" (He played "Chris the Barber". Google Forsaken DiFGrazia if you don't believe it!) And then there are his Branchburg Baseball momentos. Just a Cut has sponsored Branchburg teams for over 15 years. "I love this town and it's people," he said. "I've see the changes and been through the ups and downs of North Branch Village."
"I was here when there were just a few cars an hour on Route 28. Now they say there are 20,000 a day! I hope I can stay in North Branch for a long time to come. There's talk about development here, so who knows!"
An article about Just A Cut would not be complete without mentioning Chris's pet geckos. There are three of them in a terrarium right next to one of his barber chairs. Though they're brown and beige, they actually do bear some resemblance to that green wisecracking Geico one. No cockney accent though. If you have little kids who don't like haircuts, just tell them you're going to see Chris's geckos!
